Working on my son's H23. We are replacing the upholstery like fabric that came with the boat and had intended to use a wood veneer on the walls/hull portion of the cabin.
About ready to install when I started wondering if whatever covers the walls/hull needs to flex? Will something inflexible either crack or come loose with the flexing of the hull? Is that why fabric was used?
Thanks for the help.

Fabric was used because it's cheap. I wouldn't worry about anything flexing there. A wood ceiling of some sort will look much better, be easier to clean, and offer some insulation. I've made this change on a couple of boats and it's a big improvement.

The hull walls in the Vee Birth will flex inward in big waves. It might be as much as 1/4" Whatever ya put in there has to be able to live with that kind of flexing.. a very thin ply with veneer would be ok as would something like the bead/batten wall board from Lowes/Depot etc.. I have considered TrafficMaster waterproof flooring since it flexes and would easily conform to the shape of the interior walls. Good Luck ! Post some pictures!

Everyone says carpet that Hunter put in was cheap. Think again. That specific carpet was costly to purchase as a dealer. With the curvatures of the deck/interior ceiling, it would have been very costly to put in veener and pointed out could crack. Products have changed in the past 25 years as well. I would prefer the grey carpeting anytime as it would be easier and lest costly to install. It would not add that much weight to the top of the cabin plus it will not sweat inside either. Less weight on top so the boat would not be top heavy and think about that one.

But what IS cheap....is that carpet makes it look like a stink bote....not a proper yacht. imho.

Like I said to many folks. If the owner wants the boat a certain way and is willing to pay for it, so be it. I choose the simplicity.
