Cabin table dimensions

A previous owner cut the length of the cabin table, I guess to slide in better. Now I cannot use it as a berth! Can I get the dimensions of the full sizes table and all suggestions on how to add back the extra length either permanently or just when converting to berth would be greatly appreciated

I wish I'd read this post yesterday, when I was out at my boat with a measuring tape taking measurements for a new pedestal cover...

IMO, the best place to sleep on a Catalina 30 is in the stateroom; it takes no time at all to set up the bed, and we find that airflow is best and most comfortable sleeping here as opposed to the fore or aft berths.

Even if you were to add a piece of wood to the end of your existing table, I can't see how it would have enough strength to be used as a platform for sleeping. You'll probably have to cut a new table, I'm afraid.

Consider this: buy a thin piece of plywood, drop the smaller table and put this plywood on top of it. Should work, and you'd still have the smaller, easier to use table. In fact, you could actually hinge the plywood to make it easier to store. You could make fabric hinges, like on dinghy plywood floors.

I agree with Stu, I did the same thing with my table. Took 2" off each side to make it easier to slide around in.

Didn't think about the loss of the extra full size bed, not that I had the cushions.

I always figured I'd get a piece of 3/4" ply WITH hinges...thought that was my idea!

Enjoy the smaller table and make a work around!!!

Original Table 34.25 by 33.7/8
34 1/2 between seats. 30 1/2 forward ledge. 35 aft ledge.

I made new one shown below at 34 1/2 by 28. For sleeping it still fits and as a table I rotate it 90 degrees.

I also have a small table which makes it easier to get around. I bought a 4ft. x 4ft piece of 3/4 in. plywood, measured to fill in the berth, cut into thirds and now have 3 pieces I use when making up the dinnette bed. Easy to store. I also drilled holes to run pegs (sawed off nails) to keep them from sloding around. The stock stable is awkward, heavy and takes up too much space.

I've been scratching my head about the table/bed/hard to get in and out of sitting dilema.

First of all, please answer me this, because I CANNOT figure it out:
- What are you supposed to do for cushions when you drop the table? I've tried most of the cushions around and can't find anything that looks like it was intended to fit.

I like the solution on making it narrow in one direction only. That's a good one, I may consider that.

I use the cushions in my rear quarter berth. The ones that are vertical along the left bulkhead. Mine is a 1975 MKI. NUMBER 65.

My mistake. Starboard it is. I was turned around.

My table is the one that latches to the bulkhead and when pulled down fits into slots on bulkhead and has a leg that folds out to support other end. The table was cut on it's length end.

You guys have a different table then. My quarter berth cushions don't fit anywhere...that I can see?
See the picture, I have the large square table in the middle.

The quarter berth photo is not my boat, but its the same cushion setup.

All of the cushions are too long in one direction and too narrow in the other, and two side by side don't fit at all.
I'll send photos tomorrow of every cushion on the table not fitting if I can't figure this out. :)

My two cushions look to be the size of the aft-most upright cushion.

The rear berth's backrest cushions in my 1990 C30 fit perfectly to make the bed in the stateroom.

The original table isn't square, so that may be the issue; if you take the 3 backrest cushions from the rear berth, and line them across the table, they fit snugly. We keep a thin eggshell in the forward berth (beneath the cushions) and put it on top of the bed, cover it with a sheet, and it makes a wonderful bed. Best place to sleep on a C30, in my opinion.

I agree that it's a little tough to get around the table, but wouldn't dream of cutting it down. Plus, the previous owner put a nice veneer on our table (see photo).

I have a square table. 33.75x33.75 (1987 mkII)
I found that the two back rest cushions from the starboard settee sort-of fit.
It's also the ugliest part of the boat interior, just a fake-wood formica table top. I will make a new table sometime out of Finnish birch (5 ply to keep it light) trimmed about 6" in one direction so it's easier to get around it. That's my plan.
