We pulled up our teak and holly sole.what we found underneath looks like a silicone glue.no screws holding the floor down.we know we have to scrape it off.is there anything out there too help break the bond for scraping?

If you type "caulk remover" in that quick search box in the upper right, you'll have some reading to do. ;)

Somewhere on this site in the past two weeks or so, I read that there is a new high tech remover (possibly by 3M) that will actually remove 5200. Can't seem to find the thread.

BL, I just used a product called RE-Mov to lift the sole plywood on the ODAY. There were no screws only adhesive holding it. All previous attempt had failed as the wood broke apart first. Sprayed the product, waited a few minutes and it broke the bond.
I sprayed and worked it up from the center eventually got the entire 8ft piece from v berth to nav station out intact. I read about this stuff in Practical Sailor. Recommended!

If you already have the wood up you might want to try an oscillating tool with a scraper blade or an abrasive blade.

What's under the plywood? Is it Fiberglass? Our Morgan 28 only had 3/4" ply bridged across the bilge and epoxied to the hull on either side. Then the teak&holly ply was glued down with mastic glue. What a mess! Once the subfloor rotted the whole thing had to come out.
FWIW I've heard that silicone is damned near impossible to completely remove. Maybe you'll have some luck with that Remove stuff? Please let us know...

I have had luck with West Marine Anti-Bond 2015 on 3M 4000 / 4200. I am not advertising, just saying the stuff worked for me. Unfortunately, the only place to sell it is WM, and they charge handsomely. Fortunately, you don't need much.

BwWhisper, I am curious, what did you use to replace your floor? I am looking at replacing my floor but I haven't decided the replacement yet. I am looking at using a teak & holly with the veneer pattern from Jamestown Distributors. The problem is it only comes in 8'x4' panels, which means I have to buy 2 panels even though I only need about 1.25 panels.

Hey Salty, is this Patrick or John? It's Mickey... I'm going to try and remove the varnish, sand and re-varnish my cabin sole on my 322 before launch. If it doesn't work out, maybe I'll go in on some material with you!

Hey Mickey,
Sounds good. I cannot re-varnish because the section of floor by the companion way is not re-usable due to moisture and rot

I too partnered with another owner and bought 3 sheets of T&H plywood. My sole was stained from fuel we think but once removed was delaminating underneath.
