I have noticed a depression at the base of compression post, approximate 1/4 inch. There is currently no noticeable depression at mast step. The comp. post itself appears to be intact. I would like to know what is under the comp. post at cabin floor...I am thinking pull mast, jack cabin top, remove comp post and see what is going on. Has anyone here done this on this boat, a h27, 1981. Other than this, this boat is in outstanding condition and has been in my family since 1983. Anybody....

Mast compression

I have an 82 h27. When I bought her I pulled the mast to do some wiring. In the process I noticed the same thing. The deck was solid, the post was a bit rotten but not horrible, so I replaced that. The cabin floor was sunk in about 3/8 of an inch. I never cut in or did any real repair but I did add the difference to my replacement compression post. I also checked the rigging stress to make sure it wasn't over tight. I have a strong feeling the PO had it way too tight. I have sailed her for 2 seasons without any changes in the floor. Sadly I have no real answer for you but I figured I would share what I know, which isn't much!

Post number 2 in the following thread might give you some leads:

Looks like there are many more threads for you to explore. Use the search drop down button on the very top of the page. (NOT the search button that is in the forum menu. The search pages are different and they do yield different outcomes.) Type compression post in the search phrase. Use Hunter as the boat brand. Find your boat in the filter by model choices 27_75-84. Leave all else as is. If you can think of other search phrases maybe more threads will be revealed!
