Crew, Anyone have any experience in repairing delamination in the cabin? Our prospective vessel has a teak/holly overlay and is comming up aft near the diesel from water. Would like to know what's out there. Thanks, Michael

Delaminated teak floor

I have a 79 Hunter 30 that had the same problem due to salt water intrusion. When teak veneer plywood begins to delaminate what you see is only the beginning and since owners cannot 're-press' the veneer under SERIOUS pressure there is no way I found to 'repair' the damage. The good news is that, here in Florida and other places, there are sources for sheets (or in some cases partial sheets) of exact replacement teak veneer plywood. These are very reasonably priced and if you bring (send) the old floor in tact to a supplier, a direct replacement piece can be fabricated. Hope this info helps. By the way, if your damaged section was originally cut too narrow or too short to cover the floor properly, as a section of mine was, take new measurements and send them with the piece to be replaced. Regards, George

Sole

Thanks for the response, your answer helps. So, it seems that you weren't able to actually re-adhere that laminate to the glass. Question, did you actually cut the loose material out then glued down new? Do you have any information on a source of teak? Did you try to glue down the old piece? Thanks Michael

delamination

We have an 83 27SL with the same problem. the whole plywood sole is delaminating to the point it bows under our weight. I cut pieces of 1"X 1" treated wood and placed cross braces in the bilge area. This is extending the life of the sole. There is really no way to repair it although when I get a replacemnt I intend to epoxy the underneath to protect it from the water.

ventilate

I recently put vents in the sole that covers the bilge, I think my bilge would stay dry with evaporation if it could. Don't know yet how this will work, but hoping it will help.
