Challenger cabins require repair of cracks and splits. Here is a simple wood
"feather" patch epoxied into the glue joint on the cabin back. First it was cleaned with a hacksaw blade, a feather was ripped down on a band saw to about 1/16" plus, epoxy brushed into the joint and the feather. After it dried, planed and sanded. This is part of a varnish article. Note the deep red hue of the old mahogany, it's still there if you take it down correctly.

These patches are functional first, they are water tight.

Here's another one. More typical split between ports.

These are not that difficult. The areas between ports often have split. There are bolts running through the center of the cabinside. I build a simple jig of plywood with a fence that I tack onto the wood(small brads)

Using the smallest straight bit in a router, I cut out a a slot. Simple to then cut a dutchmen patch to epoxy in place and finish. Many require a patch on the inside and outside. They blend in very well but most of all they are a watertight patch.
