I removed my headliner and most of the plywood bits that held in place along with the glass that bedded the bits of ply in place. My plan was to run a sander over the bare glass just enough to open it up and knock down any major rough spots

what is recommended for interior paint beyond that? I do auto body and paint with a background in fiberglass and gelcoat. I am just looking for something to roll on and be done though. Perfection isn't necessary.

For many years now for interiors , on my own boats and boats I built for customers. has been ACRYLIC Latex enamels in semi gloss- water clean up, no smell, so you can sleep aboard that day and good coverage
Me too, Charlie. But most people think this is the old latex paints and still assume oil is the only option.

I use the water-based acrylic to paint decks, dinghy, etc, surfaces that see tough use.

Water based acrylic is tougher than oil, last longer, doesn't flake like oil, never mind that it doesn't kill brain cells or require oil based cleaners.

The only downside I find is it's tougher to get a mirror smooth finish the likes of which some can get with oil. But few people, myself included, can achieve the results that yacht finishers can.
