I have a 1983 Hunter 30. Does any one know how to remove the clear covers of the cabin light, that twist the light on and off, to change a bulb?

you just have to spread the lip edge a little at the two places they track and pull down from the edges.

They are a crappy arrangement and in need of replacement on most boats our age. With age, the plastic looses its abliltiy to slide, and the metal contacts eventually break.

I replaced all of mine with reasonably priced halogen bulb ones and the better appearance (not to mention the greater light output) is worth it.

"at the two places they track"??? Where and what does that look like on the light? I'm a little weary of just cranking on them, their old. I may replace with them LEDs eventually. Thanks for the any help.

Look on the sides of the plastic lens on the bevel and you'll see two solid clear spots on the fresnels. This is where the two retaining clip posts are located. Pry off the lens at these two spots.

One serves as the switch actuator that pushes two metal strips into each other to make the connection. Positive should be hooked to the tab by the switch end. You'll discover that they were made in Germany and carry the name "Aqua Signal" on the lens.

Some silacone spray around the inside of the lens part at the outer edge rib could loosen them up so they slide in rotation better.

Grip the lens firmly and twist counter clockwise past the off position and the lens should pop off. Over the last 2 years however I've replaced all the interior and the anchor and steaming lights with LED lights. The bi-color and stern light are next year's project.
