My wife and I are new to Catalina ownership and sailing as well. I discovered 4 leaks in our newly purchased 1982 27' catalina. In an effort to better understand where our leaks are and where they are coming from I wiped down my whole cabin, dried up the surfaces and removed all stuff that would get in the way. We have had a lot of rain in Houston this week. Obviously these leaks are relating to what is falling from the sky. So I can safely assume it is not coming from somewhere else. And I am also assuming that since there are no visible cracks in my deck that the water is coming from where the hardware meets the deck. Where I am seeing water is in the v berth port side shelf ledge. Behind the wood bannister is some water. Also there is water in the port side closet. Also there is water underneath the stove. And lastly starboard on the shelf ledge behind the settee. My question is......I bought some marine caulk and am ready to get started. How do you start to fix these leaks? Just take off the hardware and caulk somewhere???How much caulk do you use? Where do you caulk? How long does it have to sit before you can touch the hardware? Learning here. Thanks
