Thinking about buying 1982 Oday28. owner tells me interior lights do not work and there is internal leakage.
Anybody have any idea about that relationship. Thanks

I believe I would want a specific list of the leaking issue(s)....Leaks can be really tough to fix and can occupy nearly all your time while you would rather be sailing and enjoying your boat....I will say the the O'Day 28 is a huge 28 footer, rather like a ballroom below, and they are a great sailing boat. With a keel stepped mast and the proper sails it is a fine, stable, good looking sailboat that has maintained it's good looks to this day. Pat
I guess the owner doesn't care if the cabin lights work. All other lights and instruments work on the dc panel? . I bet all the interior lights are daisy chained so if there is a bad connection off the first light then they all fail. Get a meter and check the wire going to the first light. The connection to the light may be corroded from the water leak so test the wire itself. If no voltage it could just be a bad breaker/fuse or bad connection at the panel. You would think the owner would put in a little effort.Kind of makes you wonder what else he neglected.
When I bought my 84 O28 the cabin lights over the port and starboard settees would fill with water every time it rained, then drip on the cushions. The bulb connections would corrode and quit working. I traced the leaks to the long lexan ports on both sides. The PO had them replaced before I bought the boat and they were not sealed properly. Rain water would leak between lexan and fiberglass and then run down between the inter/outer shell of the cabin and settle in the lights.
