Cabin leak!

Hey everyone, question 1001...

my hunter 40.5 has had a cabin leak since I bought it a few months ago. I thought I solved it since it stayed dry for a weeks of rain without a single drop, however now I came back to the boat and...water again.

We first suspected a post that is below the traveler. I bedded not only the post to the deck, but also *inside* the post where the flathead screw goes through the traveler bar. This post I'm referring to is just to the right of the hatch, see pics.

Any ideas? It's either that post or something else, and either way I only have about 5 days to figure it out.

No easy fix here. Hard to find leaks are just that. I'm in the bay area as well and my boat has a couple of small leaks here and there so I keep a small electric heater on the in cabin to keep it generally dry so there is no mildew that may result from water getting in. The heater should be modern with all the safety features like an auto cutoff if it falls over, etc.

I agree, I have a dehumidifier running always which helps a lot. Don't understand why anyone wouldn't.

Seems like butyl tape has fixed it; the difficulty with this fitting is the gap and close spacing between the interior liner and the deck which makes butyl taping more difficult. I stuffed more butyl in carefully with a pencil and heated up the screw with a heat gun prior to installing and so far so good. We'll see if it changes a week from now.

Still no leaks but I've been fooled before. Got pulled back to my company in an emergency so hopefully this'll do for a few months. 3 managers out with Omicron. Hard to sleep peacefully wondering if 40 of my employees will show up with no managers there.
