Smartening up a Vega. I think my solution might be a little extreme.

I think I got a little acrried away. I am waiting for my new engine.
The plywood was in poor condition. It had started to delaminate and
was oil stained.

By smarten, do you mean cleaning tips? Or ideas on how to customize the cabin? Have you checked out the yahoo groups file section? There are some pictures of boats and the modifications some have made. Another great source is the newsletters from the Vega associations. The latest newsletter put out by AVA had lots of boat pictures with quite a few interior shots.

when i got my vega the interior woodwork was in poor condition.
ithought i would have to sand and varnish it. just for a cleanup i
used furniture oil. it looked good but the oil dries up really
quickly. i found some interior wood oil on the clearance shelf at
boats us. it is a mixture of oil and bees wax. it gets behind where
the varnish is lifting and getting yellow. the consistency is kind of
like vasaline. its been ove a month since i did this and it still
looks really good. if i can get away with doing this two or three
times a year i wont bother to revarnish.

Great picture Alan. Can I use it in the next "Fair Winds"?

Hello Chuck; Please feel free to use the pictures. If you need them
in higher rresolution I can email the "originals" to you. Better have
high speed. I suppose I should join the AVA. What is the mailing
address and what are the fees?

Thanks Alan.

The members will appreciate seeing your photos. Please send the hi-res jpg(?) images to crose@... and be sure to put VEGA in the subject line so it doesn't get lost in all the spam.

Membership in the AVA is only $12 a year for US residents and US$15 for those living outside the US. Make your check or money order payable to "Chuck Rose" and mail to:

As a new member you will recieve the VORM and archive CD so you will no miss out on all the information we have collected over the years. You may choose to receive your newsletter subscription on CD or paper. Of course the CD has lots of advantages and every CD contains the complete archive and VORM plus extras like the "Voyages" section and a photo album from our rendezvous. I'm pushing the CD because of cost and effort relative to the paper version of the newsletter but many of us just prefer to read from paper so the option is there for you. Just indicate you preference when you sign up.

Aloha,

Chuck
