Cabin Hatch Cover

On my '87 H34, I noticed that the top sliding hatch cover does not cover the top hatch board on each side. This appears to be why the cabin flooring is rotten in the corner of the galley. Is this half inch gap on each side normal, and how to remedy?

Similar on H'31.

Nick: This is similar on the H'31. We had rain and dirt getting into the cabin and decided that the only real cure was to have a companion way cover made. We also have a dodger, so between the two it keep the boat fairly dry and clean. One of the other problems is the slider on the companion way is on an aluminum channel. Water gets on the plexiglass and drains into the channels. The water then goes forward and drains down into the cabin area. The companionway cover also helps (does not prevent) this problem.

Comp.way Cover

Is this companionway cover a canvas cover that snaps onto the hatch slid rails and down the front slats?
