Hi again;

1986 Hunter 34 main main center cabin floor has water damage discoloration that is too deep for sanding and re varnishing. I believe the underlying substrate is solid. Any suggestions?

The boat is coming out of the water soon and I am contemplating pulling the floor out of the boat and re veneering it, but then the main cabin midsection floor will not match the rest of the flooring.

Any suggestions as to:

Where do I get new veneer, technique of reapplying it or a source of info on doing this?

Thanks in advance. Ilan

Hop over to Ask a Hunter owner. There is a current thread about sole replacement.

There has been in the past. I think u can search the old threads. I have seen that discussion before. I am putting this off as long as possible.

Sole redo

I have already; was a real eye-opener. Some make a real strong case for plastics and synthetic flooring. Actually looks good in the pics and don't have to worry about water damage!

I know if I put my heart into it with wood, each time I unlock the companion way hatch I'll be holding my breath for any water damage.

Hi Ilan,

FYI I've attached some pics of that job. You will need to remove the settees, as well as the hot-water exchanger and the holding tank from under the starboard settees. The port fresh-water tanks can stay in place.
The veneer is 3/4" teak and holly. Expensive but I was lucky to find an exact match. I painted the undersole with an epoxy paint to minimize water damage. The grid under the sole is very strong. I made patterns for the new pieces with the old ones. The only difference was that I made the new floor in 3 pieces to be able to bring it down the companion way.
Good luck with your project.

Hey Claude, your bilge looks spotless, any recommendations for cleaning mine? Doesn't look like it has ever see the light of day. A holding tank leak didn't help.
