The teak and holly sole in the cabin of my 1980 H-27 needs some cleaning/brightening. I am thinking about using a 3-part teak cleaner/brightener/oil. Anyone out there have any success?

I don't think I would use this approach.

Chris: I assume that your cabin sole is now oiled. If you use the teak brightner you need to be able to rinse the wood and then put on the neutralizer too. After this has been done the grain is going to be raised and you will need to sand the floor. I think that you should find another way to clean the wood. I think maybe even something like Murphy would be better, but I'm not sure. As you know these teak and holly veeners are very thin. A lite sanding may also clean it up but be very careful. We keep our sole finished with varnish or something like Daly's. This keep them clean and easy to touch up.

palm sander

i sanded my sole with 200 grit till clean and put 3 coats of varnish...looked great untill all the darn water us small hunter owners get on the floor caused it to delaminate after a few years... bought a new precut sole from hunter and varnished both sides before installing...sole was about 300 ..looks great h 28.5

Redoing the floor

Chris When I got my Legend 35.5 the floor was in need of work. It looked as though it was coated with Cetol OVER dirt. When I stripped it there was no color definition between the teak and holly. I think the previous owner sanded it too much and took out the color. This is in a 1990 boat in which the floor veeners are most likely a bit thicker then those of today. I cleaned, brightened and sanded with a palm sander and then varnished. It came out great but all one color. BE CAREFUL about sanding if you want to maintain the color seperation. Try cleaning with the least agressive products before going to the two part cleaner. If you sand, go real easy or the stain on the teak will be eliminated. PAT

Lite Refinishing

We cleaned, lightly sanded, wiped down with alcohol, and then put down two coats of Cetol. It's not too slippery and has lasted a couple of years.

1983 H27 floor

I sanded the floor witha plam sander lightly. To bring out the colors of the floor I stained the wide strips and left the thin ones as sanded. Once that was done I coated it with four coats of Varnish, three years later it still looks good.
