I have a delam problem on the foward cabin top over the V-berth. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and get it repaired sooner rather than later. Anyone had this type of work done? What was your approx. cost and how long did it take? Did the repair hold up?

Cabin Delam Repair
Tug - you may want to try this repair yourself. I replaced a 2' x 4' cabin ceiling section myself on my Cal 34, but it was near the companionway. I removed the headliner and cut through the glass and plywood from within the cabin, leaving the gelcoat intact. Then I cut a new piece of plywood and glassed it in (expoxy). However, over my V-berth, there is no headliner and the ceiling is 1.5" thick. If yours is like that, of course my fix won't work. Good luck.

The deck on my Catalina 22 delamed above the V-berth. I did some test holes from beneath and found that the core was fine. The upper fiberglass had simply delamed from the core. I filled a needle nosed oil gun with penetrating epoxy and pumped a bunch of the stuff into the space (using several holes with rubber corks that allowed just the needle nose to fit in). Then I put sandbags on the deck for overnight. Fixed it completely for about $50. If the core is rotten then that is a bigger deal but still do-able and you can work from below so you are not faced with the really difficult task of making the deck look pristine again.
