Can anyone suggest a source for new cabin cushions? Is there an outfit around that has 'patterns' for various boats and can make a set of salon, vberth, etc cushions? Thanks.

Cushions

Check out a good auto seat cushion maker. He'll recommend a suitable material for marine use and will want all your cushions so he can make a pattern for each.

Cheaper done locally

I could have had my 37C done by a local marine place for about 750 - Instead I took the old cushions in to a local car-interior shop (that specializes in classic restorations and special work) and had them done for about 500 - if memory serves. They aren't perfect, but they work fine. I would ask around before you invest 950 bucks.

Debra!

Debra: These are perfect! They have two tone high quality fabric (made to endure life aboard the boat). Vinyl backs, all nylon zippers etc. The cushions look like furniture. I could have saved $200 by not having the knees on the cushions. We also had upgraded foam that is wrapped in batting. This seemed very worth while being that the original interior lasted for 17 years. I got similar quotes for not nearly as fancy a job, so we feel that we got more than what we paid for.

Ken: They were done at US Yacht Cushions in Florida. They have many of the patterns for the different boats. You are more than welcome to stop by the marina sometime at look at the job that they did.

Canvas shops

Ted, My limited experience with this is that most canvas shops that fabricate awnings, dodgers, biminis, etc. are also equipped to make cushions. Also, most have information on various boats that allows them to give you a quote without going to the boat. However, I believe that most if not all will want to take measurements by visiting the boat,, once they have the job, since they are responsible for how the final cushions fit. Being as there are multiple choices to make before they can give you a quote (e.g. foam type and thickness, fabric type and pattern, piping, etc.) you'll have to meet with them before they can give you a quote. There are a number of such shops in the Annapolis area, but it seems like the farther out from Annapolis you go, the better the price. Hope this helps. Ed

Have you had any luck Ted? We're planning to re-cover our interior cushions this year on our 1981 Hunter 27. I'm having trouble finding a source of the fabric we want. Looking for a soft navy blue fabric with maybe a subtle nautical pattern like anchors or such. Any one out there know where I can look and get a sample or view fabrics on line? Thanks. P.S. We're frozen in right now and anxiously awaiting the Spring thaw.

Sunbrella Fabrics

Sunbrella has some fabrics that are made for interior use. They have some nautical themes as well as some other very nice colors. We just had ours done and opted for a print. Part of the thinking is that prints tend not to show stains as much as a pattern or plain fabric. This is a sample of the fabric we used. There are 3 swatches of accent fabrics that were available to go with the large swatch. We used the medium dark (top)swatch as our accent.
