This is a late reply to all who responded about my need to clean up the moldy cabin cushions on my Hunter 23 wing keel sloop. You were right! At least I have the patterns for new foam. Anyone know any reasonable foam suppliers? The ones here in Seattle.seem to think the stuff is made with gold.dust! Platinum dust if you mention the word boat. Thanks! And good sailing to all. We have bought foam...

...for exterior cockpit cushions ....

http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/macgregor2/outside-31-a.html

....and for interior cushions for the v-berth and cabin for the Mac and Endeavour.

We started on Foam Factory's retail site....

http://www.thefoamfactory.com/

...where they will cut the foam. Good prices and free shipping. Then I found out about their 'wholesale' site....

http://www.foamdistributing.com/

.. where the prices are better yet, but you have to order full sheets. Still if you need even a half sheet worth of foam it is a deal. The foam is very easy to cut with a cheap electric knife.

We like a very firm mattress and use the Lux High Quality in a 3 inch thickness for the V-berth and cabin cushions and the dry fast in 3 inches for the cockpit. We liked the way we slept in the boat so much that we bought the same foam for the bed at home and we also have it in the Endeavour. This way we are sleeping on the same stuff home or away. Even have it for the back of the Suburban and the teardrop trailer.

Good luck,

Sum

We redid all the interior cushions on our 38' IP while in Alabama. They had businesses that sold fabric and foam that came from the left overs of the furniture manufactures. The fabric was roll ends or discontinued lines and they had entire warehouses of these fabrics. They also sold brand new foam cut to your spec's and of any degree of resistance. My wife used the old cushion material for paterns and we took the foam to them and they cut it to spec's. Our entire cost was less than $400 and about a full day of sewing and stuffing vs. $2100 and up for someone else to do it.
Ask local sewing/fabric stores in your area for leads. Good luck, Ray

I went to a place that sells beds. Negotiated a price for 3 queen size foam mattresses. That was just enough foam to do our entire boat in and out. $220.
Mention cash..seems to help keep the price down...

When I bought my Catalina 30 eighteen years ago the first thing I did was price new interior cushions. The best price by far was buying direct from Catalina. They didn't even need dimentions. No shipping fees either, they just put them in a boat that was being shipped to my area. I suggest calling Hunter for a quote!

We went for the dacron wrap (interior cushions)

Best of luck

Same place we used, but now use their wholesale site....

http://www.foamdistributing.com/

Same great choices on foam quality and density and free shipping but you save even more. They won't cut to size for these prices, but that is very, very easy to do with a $15 electric carving knife.

They do now have a couple size options on the sheets where before we bought whole sheets.

They have quality foam. We have been sleeping on the same type foam that we used in the boat on our bed at home for over a year and it is as good as the day we got it. They also have a lot more choices in foam types and densities that anything one is going to probably find locally even in a larger city,

Sumner I love what you did with the cockpit-bed. What do you have underneath the cushions to support them when in bed mode?

Individual pieces of cedar. The two end ones can stay in place as cup holders or be removed. They store...

...in the lazarette and don't take up too much space and install or store in a minute or so. We sized the cushions so they would fit and broke up the long ones into half's which makes how we use them much more functional.

The bed boards install is here...
