HAs anyone else seen this problem, my boat hull #37 is rotten it appears they forgot to seal the bolt hole for the step and water has Ben getting in. I have been pulling out by hand rotten wood and plan on replacing with high density foam 16 lbs

Lots of people have seen exactly that I'm sure - us included.

It was the first core we had to replace after buying the boat with nearly all of the rest following a year later. The cabin top/mast step core was by far the easiest.

I don't think OEM's of old boats were very keen on potting, countersinking, and bedding any hardware and past owners using bathtub silicon certainly never did any lasting good.

Havin' fun livin' the life....

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Catalina stopped using wood in the mast steps on other boats back in the early 1990s.
