Has anyone ever rebed a hatch on aC350? I'd like to know what was used to bed it originally. Trying to figure out how difficult it will be to remove the hatch before I get started. Thanks for any input.

Ok great! That encouraging. I had to rebed a hatch once years back on a Wellcraft cabin cruiser and it had 5200 on it. I prolly should have gone to counseling after that.

Howard, unless you are the original buyer of the boat from Catalina, there is no way to know that a previous owner did not change the hatch and use a different caulk.

You will be lucky if 3M 4000 was used. It could be 5200 which is tenacious but can be conquered using a release agent, heat, and or a putty knife. You will be really lucky if Butyl was used.

As guidance I suggest you make sure your leak is from under the hatch and not a seal or the hinges of the hatch.

That's all great info. Thank you for making me aware of those options. I've got new hatch dogs in going to install first and then test to see if that's the issue. I'll update with what I found out.

I would use butyl tape (Bed- It) ONLY if the hatch is tru-bolted. You need a lot of clamping force to make butyl tape work seal.

My O’Day 322 hatches are just screwed into the fiberglass with screws. I tried butyl and it wouldn’t seal. I just pulled one an rebed it with something like Sikaflex.

A caulk/adhesive will work better if the hatch is held in with screws into the fiberglass deck.
