When I bought my C30 all the running rigging had been removed. This is my first boat, first sailboat. I have never sailed or been on a boat under sail. I looked at the specs for running rigging and they give general dimensions for length. I was wondering about diameter. Does anyone have a chart that has specifics about all the running rigging, like length, diameter, type of material used?
Is there a percent stretch that is preferable for sheets? I know that halyards are best with as little stretch as possible. It does have the wire/rope halyards that I am going to replace.
Also I was wondering what the difference is between poly or nylon rope bought at Lowe's and real sailboat rigging.
Any info would be much appriciated.

Thanks Jim, there is a lot of good info on that spec sheet. So Dacron ropes are what was originally installed, is that the type of rope people are using today? Are you using dacron sheets? I see that Sampson ropes use braided polyester. Is polyester better than dacron?
I joined the C30 group in yahoo. I will mess around with that later this week, I am going to the boat tomorrow and staying a couple of days.

I looked at the running rigging on this site and it is much less expensive than I thought it would be. They give the length required but they give choices in diameter. I don't know if all the diameter choices will work or is it that they all will work but the thicked ones are better?

Running rigging

Hi Hermit;

congrats on the boat, C30's are great! Here is what I have on mine, and it has worked well. On a side note, if you replace your rope/wire halyards, you may have to replace the sheves at the top of the mast to fit.

Main sheet and genoa sheets 7/16's New England ropes Sta-set
(You could get by with 3/8's, but I like slightly larger for hand feel.)

Main and genoa halyards 3/8's New England Sta-Set X (low stretch)

Jiffy reefing lines 5/16's Sta-Set, roller furler line is 1/4" Sta-Set

Traveler and Vang are 3/8's Sta-Set.

Your can buy cheap line, but that is what you get, Cheap LINE!

Running rigging is safety gear, don't scrimp. Shop around, start here, they have good prices on line.
