C30 idle speed

What should the idle speed be? My C30 has been re-powered with a Perkins perama M30 diesel with 3 blade prop and I think it has too high of an idle at 1500rpm. My idle speed is around 4kts and I have to shift in and out of gear to slow down for docking.

The engine manual has the lowest idle speed of 900rpm listed but that is it.

just curious if anyone else has a M30 repower or what is the average "idle" speed.

Usually between 900 to 1100 rpm 'cuz the real issue is the the pop on the transmission.

thanks so much I will figure out how to turn down the idle (not really sure how the throttle controls should be set up. long one is FWD-REV and short one is throttle. I'm guessing the up setting is idle and forward. or is the pulled all the way back for idle?. Also what is a normal speed range at idle? I have been trying to figure out how slow I can go before losing steerage.

Have someone upstairs move the throttle while you're down below watching it. Adjust accordingly.

got the idle down to 900 but the tachometer stops working. I tried 1100 but the vibration was too much. At 900 it's smooth and at 1100 everything starts to vibrate a lot until around 1500.

The tach drops to 900 and then all the way but the idle stays the same. I'm guessing it's electric and there is not enough to power it as the battery light comes on too?

If you've been plugged into shorepower, your batteries are full and low engine and alternator pulley rpms will not require the alternator to produce electricity, no production, no tach signal.
