Does anyone know if the icebox on a C28 Mkii 2004 is insulated??

If not, how to?

Yes, but not very well. As far as I know no Catalina has very good insulation around the icebox. You cannot have too much. Our C 30 only manages to keep ice froozen for about 24 hours. Most sailors try to glue closed cell foam sheets (the blue type styrofoam sheets available at Lowe's) around the inner and / or outer perimeter of the box. Beware of cheaper open cell foam insulation. It will suck up moisture & create a mold farm. I would keep the insulation on the ouside of the icebox for that reason, but it is difficult to install, as the fiberglass frame & surround prevent easy access. Good luck. p.s. Insulated flexible cooler bags installed inside the icechest for meats & produce may help extend their shelf life. Many folks just bring along dedicated igloo coolers to keep things cold for longer & are easier to clean out!

I use my icebox for dry storage and have dedicated coolers for cold drinks and cold food.
