I am planning to rivet or screw some hardware on to my 270's boom and I gather from the manual that the single line reefing system includes some blocks inside the boom. I dont want to damage these so I called Catalina to find out exactly where they are located. The tech support person tried to be helpful but did not know if they were loose or were fixed (in which case they could be located by rivet or screw heads on the outside of the boom). I can't recall if there are any rivet or screw heads on the outside of my boom and my boat is an hour away. I'd like to know before I go down to the boat Sunday. Does anyone know exactly where the internal blocks are located within the boom?

Skip the rivets and tap threaded holes for the fasteners. You can purchase a small tap & die set from Home Depot that will suit your purpose. Use the included chart to match up the correct drill bit size. Regarding the boom's interior, you should be able to remove the cap at the end of the boom for a visual. I have a 27, the outhaul's purchase system is inside the boom, the reefing lines are all exterior. In any event, by tapping the the screws you won't go deep enough to affect any of the internal workings. Don't forget, if you are using stainless fittings you want to minimize contact with the aluminum boom. I've done this by putting a layer of electrician's tape on the backside of the fitting in conjunction with sealant for the screws.
