C27 mast rewire

With the mast down and compression post out in order to replace a bulkhead and compression block I found the flat 4 wire trailer stuff leading from the mast step, down inside the post, and through the bilge to the panel. I bought some good 4 wire from WM to replace the flat, and wonder if there's a reason not to take the wire across the top of the bulkhead on the head side, down the run by the hull deck joint and then into the panel? Seems like a better deal to keep wire out of the bilge. Any help?

When we did our C30 we did just that running the wire and new vhf coax to the starboard side. Drilled a hole in the center of the mast step and installed a conduit thru the deck with all the proper sealers. This got rid of all the splices at the base of the mast. Made it all look nice with wire loom below deck.
