Hello again all... I have been working with my Canvas guy in coming up with a design for my New Catalina 27. In order to have him start he needs the Clearance measurement of the Boom... Can anyone tell me what the measurement from the cockpit floor to the bottom of the Boom is? She is a Catalina 27 – 1985 Std Rig Unfortunately I will not have access to this until April. Hoping someone here will have that or next time they head to their C27 they can measure :) Thanks Alot!

Hi again,

Your measuring for a bimini, right? I helped you the last time with measurments and will be glad to help again but I have a question. The boom has alot of up and down movement{topping lift} to change the sail shape. Do you want the measurment with the boom all the way up? That will give you the most headroom under the bimini but will not not let you adjust/shape the mailsail. I had canvas work done last year, they came to the boat and measured everything. I was there to ask and answer any questions, I would think you would be sooooo much better off then taking measurments from someone elses boat and phoning them to a canvas company. Anyway, I am sure you have your reasons and I am happy to look at mine and give you the measurments. Jack

Jack to the Rescue :)

Hey Jack... thanks for your help once again... Im getting a full enclosure done and the canvas guy wants to know what the height will be... I told him that I want to wait until I get my boat to my home port with all the rigging up so I can decide exactly how high / design ect... He just wants an idea so he knows how much fabric to order so he has it all and can start working on her as soon as she is in her home port... ? how much play is there? Boom all the way down, compare to all the way up? im sure it will depend on a few different things.. Thanks again!

Hello Canada

I sure miss Canada. I am a New Englander and took a lot of trips to Canada. The summers are the best but the winters got to be too much for me. Where is Oakville? I think your on one of the Great lakes but I am not sure. Sounds like we have the same boats, Mine is hull # 6247. The measurement is 73 inches at best. That would be with the topping lift pulled tight. I would guess it would be about 4 inches less with the topping lift released and the sail pulled down tight. Good luck and I am happy to have helped. Jack

Oakville runs along Lake Ontario, thats where i sail out of... Winters are a little harsh here (this winter has been very nice to us though) none the less, couting the days to get the boat wet... Thanks again for your help, this give my canvas a good idea.
