I just purchased a C250 and had it moved from one marina to another. The mover was NOT a pro but had a trailer. We stepped the mast but had to add links to the back stay. The roller was never removed from mast head. The roller appears to be off set and attached at the side of the mast head and is not centered. It is a CDI and may have come with the OEM boat. Is it normal for the roller to be offset. I do not want to re-step mast unless i have to ($$$).

And now to actually answer your question. The CDI furler foil has a habit of getting the shackle at the top of the forestay twisted over to the side when you step the mast if you don't watch it carefully. This will make either the forestay or backstay seem too short. The only way I found to correct it was to lower the mast and re-step with constant tension on the forestay/foil. Yes, I know. It happened to me on my CP26 the last time I stepped the mast. PITA. You might be able to "flip it around" by working the foil around a bit, but I was unsuccessful at it.

I used to own a C25, and I know that Stu owned one too, so I think he's more then qualified to give you an answer. Anyway, the previous post was right about the CDI Furler. While they work, they aren't exactly robust in design. Long story short, you should lower the mast to get the top swivel connections straight. If you try to operate the furler like that it will stretch & damage the aluminum extrusion. Cheap will wind up being expensive. When you lower the mast to move your boat, be very careful to keep the furler's foil flat and straight. If its not evenly supported, then it can get kinked & will be ruined. That's why its better off being tied to the mast when transporting. Although this is one of the reasons I gave up on moving my C 25 around as its a PITA to lower the rig when trailering.
