I have a 1975 C22 that needs to be completely rewired (among other things). Is there anywhere to get a wiring diagram for a boat this old? I am happy to wing it, but if anyone knows where I may be able to get any manuals or documents that could help me with maitaining/repairing my wonderful child, I would appreciate it.

Have you tried Catalina Direct?

Mine's a 1988 -- don't think it would be of much use. If Cat Direct doesn't have something, try the TrailerSailor board -- someone there will have something. Brad

Good stuff.

Thanks for the leads. So far Catalina Direct looks pretty good. I can't wait to get a stereo hooked up and get some tunes going. I have a boom box that seems to always be in the way. More imporantly is a bilge pump. I seem to be taking on water!

Bilge Pump?

A boat like the 22 Cat should not need a bilge pump( Electric). This should be your first concern! Sometimes wiring to your specs is better than factory wiring. If you know what you want get advice as to how to do it right. Proper colors and proper type of wiring, breaker or fuses, etc. If you don't get wiring diagrams, there is not that much on a 22 that can't be traced. There are currently, approx. 4 fuses. If you want a diagram that tells you where to fuse the stereo or BILGE PUMP, you are beyond what the factory will send you. There is more advice here should you figure what you need. r.w.landau

Wiring DIagram

Check out the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association on line. You can down load the 1977 Catalina Owners Manual. This has a wiring diagram. I redid most of mine, it's a breeze. Brad Baldwin

Thanks for the responses.

Your replies have helped. Nothing is left of the old wiring but the switch panel. The wiring diagram from the 77 manual was what I was looking for. As for taking on water, it is still a mystery. We have had heavy rains, but not enough in my opinion to account for the amount of water I found. At least now I will now be able to play the radio while I bail her out. :) Thanks again

Taking on Water

Take a look at your cockpit drains where they go from the cockpit sole to the exit on the stern. Sometimes the drain pipe leaks. Open the lazarett, pour some water in the cockpit and see if it is leaking from the drains, this is not that uncommon for a boat of this age. Good Luck

Taking on Water

HI David, In regard to you taking on water, there could be a number of places or locations it could be coming from. If it were me, I would begin by checking any fittings at or below the waterline. Meaning, if you have a knot meter, depthsounder etc. then check to see if the bedding compound is dryed out and cracked. If not there, check the hose for the winch cable (if it's a swing keel) because breakdown of the hose in which the cable travels in, may also allow you to take on water. Mountings for the outboard motor bracket if below the waterline . Also the Rudder mounting bolts look for cracked compound around them as well. Stern boarding ladder could also be an entry point for water, if the mounting bolts are below the waterline. I can't think of any other place unless you have some craks along the keel itself where it bolts into the hull. Hope this helps, :) Dave

taking on water rply.

Dave, I am starting to suspect the swing keel. All the water has been pumped out and I will keep an eye on it to see if I can trace it. I am now back on the wiring project. I bought a new switch panel from Catalina Direct, but after inspecting the old panel I am thinking of just rebuilding the original one. I can get all the parts at Radio Shack. It would be fun to restore the original part. Either that or I just plug in the new one and go have a beer instead. My wife does not understand why I would want to rebuild an old part rather that use a new part. Because I can (I think)!

swing keel

There is a 25 swing keel here that has a crack just below the housing on the hull close to the pin. I don't doubt that the boat had grounded sideways and foundered till the captian got her off. He did a temp fix with marine tex. I would do this only as a temp fix.You would be subjecting the fiberglass laminations to water and promoting blisters and delamination. r.w.landau
