I am replacing the wood board on my outboard bracket. I bought the plastic one from Cat Direct and it has a stainless backing plate. The holes on the plate do not match those on my bracket. Options are to drill out the holes on the new plate to match the existing bracket or can I just drill and screw the new plastic board to the existing bracket without using the additional stainless backing plate sold by Catalina Direct?

Go with the strongest combination.

The plastic board was designed to use the stainless backing plate. Your options are to bolt the plastic board to the stainless plate and then mount them as a unit on the old mount by drilling both and using the old holes to mount the pair. The other option is to simply drill the pair to fit the old mounting hole bolt pattern and mounting the pair with this bolt pattern. This is the cleanest. The important item is to use the stainless plate and plastic board as a pair. Now haul fanny and get sailing. Ray
