Hi all
We have been looking at a1975 38 and had her surveyed today. I have not gotten the report yet but the surveyor told me over the phone that there were some areas of the deck that are wet, Chain plates and port side genoa track. We really like the boat but are a bit troubled by this. I asked him if he would run from the boat and he said no. Just that he would renegotiate the price. From what I have been reading this doesn't sound like an impossible repair, just time consuming or costly. Anyone seen this in an older 38? Thoughts?

Thanks

Joe

Hi Jetdvr393.
I just recently bought a C&C Landfall 38 and also had it surveyed. There were a few moisture readings on the deck around the mast rail and chain plates. According to the surveyor these were not a show stopper and just needed to be re-sealed.

The more important thing to keep in mind is the general condition of the boat and specifically the hull, keel, and rudder. Also important is the shaft and prop should have no play.

These are great boats and plan to sail this weekend and start provisioning.

Take care and follow your gut feel.

Keep everything in perspective. It's a 40 year old boat. She has good bones.

I would guess that about 80% of the boats I sail on have some sort of issue with water intrusion. The other 20% of the owners are liars.
