C&C 38 Landfall - Haulout question

Hello. I purchased a 1982 Landfall 38 from a yard that uses jack stands. My club only uses cradles. My question is when I haul out... can the keel support the weight of the boat while it is in the spuds on the platform (FYI it's a railway-style haulout)?
Thank you in advance.

Welcome SBO.

C&Cs are well built boats, the weight of the boat should be on the keel in the cradle or jack stands. I assume you are going to build a cradle while it is in the railway?

If you are going to weld up a new cradle, build it so the pads are adjustable. You can get the rough measurements while the boat is on jack stands and fit the pads to the hull when it comes out of the water. The easiest way to make them adjustable is to use the acme threaded rods that jack stands use with a pad on top.

Thanks very much. Yes I am having a steel cradle modified that will fit the boat. I'll have it out for a weekend as I'll also be tending to the bottom paint and cleaning the topside. Thanks again.

Congratulations... fantastic boat! Sailed to Europe & back through the Caribbean and Bermuda. Extremely solid took an extreme grounding before the Europe trip and can stand on it's keel.

Thanks for your message. I posted this question about the keel as someone at my club inferred that it it might not be able to handle the weight. Anyway based on the research I did, it's clear that these Landfalls are very well built boats. Glad that your grounding didn't cause much damage.

In regards to the adjustable pads for a cradle... Drill and tap holes in the side of the tubes where the screwjacks fit...then insert a matching stainless steel bolt. Tighten the bolt to stop the pad+screwjacks from rotating

That way the pads stay exactly where you left them in the spring.

I have seen everything from duct tape to rope to Bungie's being used to the stop them from rotating,. When 30 minutes with a drill, tap.qnd some bolts will solve it and last as long as you own the cradle.

They have no idea what they are talking about. As @dlochner and @higgs said.. that is how most keelboats are stored. Weight on keel. The stands or cradle supports are there to keep the boat upright.
Nice boat.!
