C&C C&C 24' Metedeconk River
Hi All
I just bought a 1983 C&C 24'. It was love at first sight! I can't tell you how excited I am. I am very new to sailing, it is something I have always wanted to do and I figured there is no better time than now. In fact I'm starting the bucket list with this one.
I have many questions and I'm sure the list will be endless.
I was lucky enough to have two of these boats to choose from. I looked at a 1980 and a 1983. I ended up buying the 1983 (seller says 83 but boat marking says 84 I'll see when I get the title)but there were a couple of things that stood out to me about the 1980. I'm interested if anyone can confirm what I noticed and maybe explain. The 1980 had a very heavy thick wood 3 piece companionway door and the front hatch was also wood. The canvas seperating the cabin was also noticably higher quality and a beautiful tan color. I loved those features. The 1983's door is much thiner, the hatch is some kind of plexi-glass and the canvas is thiner and white. Did they start to cut back on quality at that time? If so, was it only those kinds of cosmetics? I went with the 1983 because of some questions about deck cracks on the 1980 and distance to home but I would LOVE to have the door and hatch from the 1980, there was a noticible difference in the feel those things gave the boat. Otherwise the boats appear almost identical.
I look foward to chatting with you all
Nancy

Hunter 28.5 Chesapeake Bay
I owned and sailed a 1976 C&C 24 for 8 years on the Chesapeake. It was a great little boat and i sailed it everywhere in all sorts of weather. While a bit tender, it was able to stand up to a lot of weather if you had the right sail combination up. I had five hank-on headsails that ranged from a 155 % genoa to a small 40 % spitfire jib -- and I used all of them every season. I loved tha little boat.

Nor sure the companionway or hatches I had were similar. I eventually made a 4-piece set of companionway boards out of solid mahoghany for the boat and that worked well. I never had any kind of curtain separating the V-berth from the cabin and never felt a need for one as privacy on a boat this size is never going to be very good. Good luck with the boat -- hope you love it as much as I loved mine.

Nice boat and congrats Nancy! Welcome aboard!
On a 29 (1983) or 32 (1980) year old boat there are bound to be numerous improvements, modifications and replacements made by the owners. Soft goods like cushion cover and curtains wear out, get dingy or are just plain ugly to begin with and owners upgrade these things to thier own taste.
On the companionway boards, some opt to replace the wooden boards with clear or tinted plastics to allow more light in the boat when it's closed up. If you're on the boat during a rain storm, it's much nicer to have that big "window" on the world rather than looking at the back of the wooden boards.
