I am looking for better ideas that the standard table (I have the L-shaped floor plan). Please share. This is my one dissappointment with my "new to me" 1989 C-30. paulcwhite@yahoo.com

Table

Paul, I don't understand what you are looking for. Do you have the standard dinette table or the table that folds up on the bulkhead? Sean

L-shaped layout

Sean, Paul said he had the L-shaped layout, so that would be the big table that also can be hung on the bulkhead. I've heard of people hinging the big table, making a smaller table with a separate piece that can be stored elsewhere but added when required to convert the area to a berth, or even replacing the L-layout with a small table on a pedestal, building a plywood box for the bulhead seat, and making cushions. Check the sailnet ftp site for the C30, I've seen pictures there for big table alternatives/mods.

Move table

The original table was designed to serve as a berth and was too big for the cabin. We moved the bulkhead teak base it sits on when folded up to the opposite side of the wall in the head compartment. The table in the head compartment is totally out of the way, but ready for making up the berth when needed. We then obtained a smaller freestanding table that makes the cabin usable and is not disproportionate to the space. We replaced the moved teak with another block of teak so there would be support for the bed. We are very pleased with this change and live aboard here in Mexico for 6 months a year. We copied another Cat 30 owner when we saw this change. The bulkhead the table was covering now sports a nice large mirror which enhances the cabin greatly.

Good table mod

I modified the table in my c-30 ,NIMBUS, as is in the following link. This works really well for us, but may not be what you are looking for.Hope this helps. The first link at this site has some good ideas.
