Can anyone tell me the recommended idle speed for the perkins 18 HP M-25? In neutral or in Gear. Javaken@aol.com

Ken M-25 is usually associated with a Universal or Westerbeke engine, 21 HP three cylinder. Perkins have different designations, like Perkins 108, etc. Idle for diesel engines on sailboats of intermediate size is usually 600 to 800 rpm. It varies because some engines "wobble" at low speeds so skippers have increased the RPMs to avoid the rumble at certain RPMs. You'll also find that the engine sounds and feels better at certain RPMs than others all across the range from minimum to flat out RPMs. That's the way they wobble!
