I'm positive this question has been asked. However, I must ask, is the hum from the swing cable normal? A sign of a problem? What can be done to minimize? Look forward to hearing from you.

a good sign

The cable hangs down aft of the centerboard in the turbulent water. If it has any tension on it, it will vibrate harmonically. It can be used as an audio speed indicator. The cable and winch are strong enough to retract the 550 lb keel so there is not much chance of any failure from vibration due to turbulent water. You can slack off the cable all the way and it usually goes away

Humm thats a good question

Check your owners manual. I think it says to lock down your keel with the ever so controversal "lock down bolt" then tension the cable with the winch.

Hum

I just back off my winch about 1/2 a round. I rarely ever hear the cable hummmm.
