I'm ready for my first sail. Which way to lower it and any idea how many cranks is normal? Thanks, Bob

depends on where you stand

If you are in the cabin facing aft (looking toward the rear of the boat!) Clockwise turning raises the keel and of course Counterclockwise lowers the keel. I never took note of how many turns it takes to get it up or down but that problably is information that could be useful. I am going to check it out this weekend.

Turns

Bob, My '86 C22 as it is takes 29 turns to raise the keel from fist tension on the cable to the clunk when its up. When its down I go a few more turns to prevent the "hum" at higher speeds.
