Has anyone replaced the compression post in their pre-1987 C-22? What is involved as far as getting the old post out and the new post in? Is it epoxied or glassed in place? Thanks...

Compression post?

Matt, I think what you are calling a "compression post" is what I think of as a "mast step". My description is probably incorrect; however I am refering to the block of wood that sets between the bottom of the hull and the cabin mast support. I looked at a 1978 Cat 25 yesterday and this piece of wood has the laminate peeling off and is begining to get soft, I could stick my pocket knife in the side about 1/4 in. I too am wondering how much of a prodject this would be to repair, "looks like a full grown monster to me". I am making the assumption that if the side is weak the very bottom is just as weak or worse. Meaning that the mast has probably dropped at least 1/4". In addition I noticed small fissure cracking in the deck under the mast. If you've gained any experience or knowledge please share. Thanks, Woody.
