Hi Everyone, With spring around the corner, I am taking more and more trips to the boat yard doing litle chores here and there. In the next few weeks I want to paint the botom of my C-22. I have never done this before and I don't know how much paint will be necesary. It already has a coat of bottom paint on it that has chipped in places, so I will give it a once over with a sander and then apply probably two coats directly on the sanded coat already on the hull. *How much paint should I buy? *I live in New Jersey, sail the boat in barnegat bay, but the lagoon I keep in in is mostly brackish. Any good bottom paint recomendations? *I have also heard of people adding cayanne pepper to their bottom paint one-half-cup per gallon to ward off marine growth even further. It sounds like it would work, but has anyone tried this? Thanks in Advance, Mike

Little cold yet

I would think your being a little optimistic for NJ given it should be at least 55+ for painting. Sound like you have a hard paint on the boat currently. Personally I am going with a ablative paint like Micron Extra (w biolux) 2-3 coats. Two coats on a 22 footer w a 3rd coat at the water line, I would think 1 1/2 gal. The biolux is to control the slime, instead of pepper.

Paint Tip

Hello Mike, I was able to roll three full coats on the boat and rudder with 1.25 gallons of Micron CSC, an ablative by Interlux. The boat was in the water 13 months before haul out. After a hose down and gentle scrubbing with a SOFT brush, the paint job looked like the day it was splashed. I did have to slap on a bit to the lower end of the keel as it had rubbed clean due to a few light groundings. ljp Saint Benedict, #14686 Man...I love that little boat
