I have planned my first BVI bare boat charter in April with my family which includes three kids ages 13, 15 and 17. Although everyone is extremely excited right now, my biggest concern is the kids getting bored after a week of snorkeling. For those with experience, any suggestions besides snorkeling and swimming? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

BVI Trip

Kevin In addition to "just" snorkeling, which is time consuming and FUN, just remember to make stops on land. Leverick Bay Resort in North Sound is great with a swimming pool. Anchorage is easy right out front. They also have paragliding rides and water skiing. Cane Garden Bay has a great beach and lots of things to do on land. Just get off the boat and do different things. You most likely have received a chart or a cruising guide, so read up about what's happening elsewhere in the islands, and what interests you and the kids. Wish I was going with you *5 Stu

Consider a flotilla

If it isn't too late, consider seeing if the Moorings has a flotolla scheduled during the time you want to go. I've been to the BVI for sailing bareboats on three occasions. By far, the most fun was when we went on a Moorings flotilla. They try to build in some activities on shore. Sunsail does the same thing. The downside is that the flotillas move fast, a different anchorage every day. The exception to this is Sunsail's two week flotilla.

Don't forget fishing!!

Hey Kevin, I have been there twice, 96 & 98 and head a great time. I did alot of fishing from the sailboat. We cought about 9 different types of fish!! We age most of them, after talking to some locals. Take a heavier downrigger rod if you have one, and take some lighter rods for trolling in the dingy, the kids will have a great time catching yellowtail under the boat. Just don't eat fish from the harbor area, only from out in the channel. Enjoy!! Dean
