Hi there, I'm looking to buy a used Beneteau. Myself and my girlfriend are going to sail the Med this summer for four months. We are going to start in Turkey and want to buy a boat there. As we will be spending so much time on the boat, we need something which is liveable. All my sailing has been racing, so I would like a boat which is fast and can point well (i.e., preferably deep keel). The boat will be sailed through the Bay of Biscay, so something which is good in moderate to stronger waters but also good in light winds for places such as Greece. My research has led me so far to two models which would be within my price range: the first 345 and the 35s5. Which of the two is better all round value or am I looking at completely the wrong boats all together? At the moment, I'm erring more toward the 35s5 deep keel version, as the draught is not quite as long and they are newer boats. They are the only two differences I can distinguish at the moment. Is anyone aware of any inherent problems with these two models? I have heard that the keel on the 345 is iron secured with mild steel bolts which are prone to corrosion? If you have any light to shed on my questions, I would be most grateful for your advice! You can also e-mail me at: pholding@hotmail.com

35S5

I have just purchased a 1993 35S5 and did a lot of research on the model before buying. I concluded that this boat was the best all around boat for the money in this price range. The iron keel will rust without proper maintenance but none I came across had problems with corroded keel bolts. Buy one without rust and epoxy the keel. It should last 5 years.
