go for the H260

I was faced with the same choice a couple of years ago. I spend a lot of time comparing the two boats. If you like to SAIL it is the Hunter. If you need to fight strong currents or plan to motor for long distances you can always go with a bigger outboard. The H260 will heel more and maneuvering in the marina is easier in the Mac. I think the H260 is also a better built boat.

Hi Ted, I have owned a 1990 Macgregor 26 (swing keel) which is a sail boat -- not the Motor/Sailor 26X that MacGregor produces now. I was very happy with the boat during the 8 years that I owned it. It is easy to trailer and launch which I did single handedly most the time. The Mac 26 was slipped at a lake many seasons, but I also trailered it around to different cruising loacations and had a lot of fun. I currenlty own a 1999 Hunter 260 which I have sailed for 3 seasons. I can also launch and haul single handedly. Because it has a tandem axle trailer, it actually tracks better than the MAC. It is 2000 lbs heavier than the Mac and you definately know you are towing something during acceleration and braking. I have used a V6 powered GMC Jimmy as a tow vehicle for both boats and it works just fine. Mast raising and setup are similar for both boats. The H260's B

MAC VS HUNTER

I was a MAC 26 owner before I became a Hunter 260 owner. The Mac was fantastic. However I live on my Hunter for most of the summer and it does have more room inside than the Mac.
