buying OD34

I own an '83 OD34 and am very happy with the boat. I cruise weekends and for a week+ every year, plus Wed nights and an occasional weekend race. I'm very happy with the boat both performance and comfort. A 34 has to be about 20 years old, so, just like a used car or house, maintenance and care by the previous owner is the key issue. I have not had any problems that seem unique to this boat. Hire a good surveyor and pay a fair price. If the boat's in good shape I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I love mine

I purchased an O'Day 34 (1981) last September. I made my decision based on the workmanship and cockpit space and I have not been disappointed. She sails quite nicely, I can easily get 7 knots out of her in a 15 mph wind. Last weekend I had nine people, five adults and four kids on board and we were not crowded at all. Just make sure you take the previous repliers advice. Get a good surveyor who will give a a good checkout. (Of course you would do this for any boat.) Hopefully you'll get one like mine that was cared for for twenty years by an owner who took care of her. Good luck and happy sailing. She meets my difinition of a good boat. You're smiling when you walk up to her; you're smiling when you sail her; and you're smiling when you're walking away and turn around and take one last look at her.
