I am looking at a 1965 ensign. The owner has pointed out the known problems. He said that early model ensigns have a delamination problem at the keel. This boat is weeping water. My question is, is this a typical problem and has any one had to address it and what other problems has been encounted as a result such as contamination of the core etc.... Also if anyone may have suggestions or what the expense may have been to correct this problem.

ensign repairs

Used ensigns run between 2500-3500 A problem like the one you describe is not easy to fix. Probably a couple of days for 1 or 2 men at Newport boat yard prices could come to more than the value of the boat. Good Luck Bob Fox 1975 P26w #76 Whitecap

Photos are being taken now. I hope to better understand what's involved or maybe via the forums suggestion to keep looking. Mainly would like to know if this is common or just poor upkeep and neglect. I don't mind hard work but if it's totaled I need to walk away. I just want to sail not race.
