I originally had an old auto pilot that came with my boat (Catalina 30). I had it for no longer than six months when it took ill. I tried to have it repaired but it never worked quite right again. I am tired of dumping more money in to it and I am faced with buying a new one. First glance the Ray marine Smart Pilot X 5 from West Marine @ +-$1000.00 seems like the best deal, actually I don't know of any others. Not a lot of blue h2o sailing mostly Tampa bay with the occasional trip to the gulf. Any sugestions on what to purchase. Thanks

I have a Pearson 31 and want an auto pilot. The X5 seems to be the only wheel pilot on the market. My boat has never had an autopilot. Any feed back on the X5. or other sugestions? Defender has a better price then west marine.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I have a raymarine S1 autohelm. It is a very nice unit but it was kind of pricey. Raymarine isn't the only company that makes a wheel pilot. I believe that Simirad does as well.

Check ebay and other places out as well. Maybe you will luck into a good deal.
