Buying a Catalina 25

I'm in the market for a newer Catalina 25 (wing keel). I'm interested in the boats from 1987-1994 and 1995-2000. The newer boats are lighter, but does this mean there's less hull strength? There's also a difference in the interior, pop top & cockpit designs. Which would be more suitable for cruising? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
