I'm sure that will work Brian. My hatch was leaking in the same place and I cured that with some silicone. But I have found that it still leaks at one of the top mounting screws and I see where the previous owner covered it with a sealer of some kind. I'm going to at least remove all the screws reseal them if not the whole hatch.

A new hatch seems very dear so i would avoid that if you can. I found a gap between the frame and plexi on mine. I made sure the silicone filled that space with no gaps and it worked. I'll put that on my inspection list and reapply every season if needed rather than spring for a new hatch.

Normally, NO silicone is allowed on my boat, but if it's gonna be silicone, 795 seems the only one to be allowed. Even Maine Sail, vendor of Bed-it Butyl Tape for sealing deck fittings says that DC 795 is the stuff to use for bedding plexiglass and Beckson plastic ports.
