I just purchased a 1985 Mac 25, and discovered that the light bulb at the top of the mast is burned-out. Any ideas on where to purchase a new bulb? Are they standard on all Macs? "MANY THANKS" for any suggestions! Michael

Bulb replacement

An 85 Mac may not have the original mast light. Reguardless of the brand of fixture, replace it by using the current bulb, it should have a number stamped on the metal base. If there is no number, you can go to an auto supply store and show them the bulb and ask them for a replacement bulb for a "side marker light" for a truck. It will be of sufficient wattage to meet USCG (two mile visability) requirements. Even better, once the auto supply store identifies the bulb and gives you a number, go to a motorcycle shop and buy a heavy duty motorcycle bulb to replace it. They are more shock and corrosion resistant than auto bulbs and will last longer. Happy sailing, Mike

Bulbs

To see if the power matches your old bulb, most bulbs have the rating on them like 12v3W/20CP. This is a 12volt 3amp bulb that is 20 candle power bright, the higher the cp (candle power) the brighter the bulb. Also you should look into the new LED type bulbs, they draw only 10% of the power of regular bulbs, your battery will last longer.
