Kittywake has been a lawn ornament for a little while now, so I am starting to get to a little bit of restoration. I just reconstructed the "false" bulkhead on the port side that separates the galley from the cocpit locker. The old one had pretty well rotted away, as a "fix" a previous owner had put white plastic on the bulkhead. This plastic and a small bit of the bulkhead remained I was able to use it for a template. I cut a piece out of ridged insulation material for a test fit. When everthing looked good I transfered the shape to plywood (1/2 marine grade ply bonded to 1/4 okume with epoxy). I cut the piece out then test fit the plwood bulkhead which needed a little shaving here and there. I coated the bulkhead in epoxy and varnished the finish side. Today I plan to epoxy the other side (locker side) and paint that side white. I call this a false bulkhead because it is not tabbed in, and originally it seems, was was just screwed to the cockpit framing. I plan to epoxy some small teak cleats to the hull so that the bottom of he bulkhead may be more securely attatched.
I will post pictures later.

Hi Jimmy,As I am working in this area and have few original parts to use as patterns I need to know the width of the bridge deck and the depth of the galley locker from the inside of the after cabin bulkhead, the pictures you are posting will also help.Whit was going to bring me some blueprints but I have not heard from him lately and I return to the UK soon.

Her is a picture of the bulkhead.

My bridge deck is missing, but I think I could measure the space if that would helpful.

Thanks Jimmy,I bought the boat with the cockpit out and the cockpit pod made but not fitted, looking at the way the pod front bearer was placed and the depth of the galley locker and now at your port bulkhead,I am really dissapointed at the bad work that has been previously done and would like to correct some of the wrongs.Without detailed dimensioned drawings(I have general layouts which are to scale, some from Southport)it is difficult to get that area back to original,so anything dimension wise is a real boon as are photo`s.It seems that my pod is about right but the locker is far deeper than original, and the bridge deck much wider than original pushing the pod further aft,I also have no Port bulkhead.Anything you can send my way will be much appreciated.

Well, I have begun cutting at the tabbing of the rear starboard bulkhead that makes up the wall of the hanging locker. The bulkhead is really put in quite well, the tabbing is amazingly neat, and I hate to cut it out, but it is in bad shape. I am using a 4 in. angle grinder with a diamond cutting blade.
