Bulkhead removal

Hi guys

I'm trying to remove the port side bulkhead, the one that seperates
the port locker from the cabin. I've released all woodwork and the
bolts but the glass tabbing it was bolted to prevents is coming
forward and the cockpit moulding stops it going aft.

Anybody know the trick.

Hello George
I have taken the entire interior out of our Vega (and replaced it) .
The bulkheads are the last to come out and the first to go in. Have
you taken out the galley? That may be the next step. The problem is
that a lot of it is glued together. You could saw the bulkhead in two
pieces horizontally. That is what I would do. Then I would scarf a
new
bottom to the bulkhead. This would be laminated in place. Tricky
stuff.
Lastly, whay are you taking out the bulkhead? In our case that was
the
only bulkhead that had not delaminated. It was, however, soaked in
oil.Alan

Hi Alan,

yes I have already removed the galley. I need to get the bulkhead out
to complete repairs to hull, try to wet out fibre glass upside down in
the port locker doesn't sound like a laugh. Actually given how fat I
am I'd probably get stuck.

Did you completly remove that bulkhead, cause I still can't see how.
Any suggestions gladly accepted.

Did you relaminate your bulkheads or make new?

Hello George, Have you taken out the engine compartment walls? That
could be your next step. A good tool is the the finer version of the
wonderbar. This is a thin flat crowbar. It is used to break the glue
joints. Practically no damage is done.

This is a view after all the interior was out save for the sft
bulkhead.

The engine compartment comes out fairly easily. (Only the main
bulkhead and the one forward of it are structural.) If you really get
frustrated you could just cut the top off the bulkhead. Do a butt
joint with a backer peice of plywood to put it back together.

Can you repair the hull from the outside? Although I did a complete
refit of the boat I had few fiberglass repairs.

We installed new winches today. It was really hot 30 C. And hotter in
the shed. I have water tanks in the lockers. I almost got stuck
permanently as there is less room to manoeveur.
