I need to replace a bulb in my Vega cabin light.

I need the bulb number ,
is there a generic North American bulb that will fit ?

Has anyone found LED replacement bulbs that fit ?

Thanks Dan C 1240

I sent Bebi the lens/cover dimensions last year. They said that they didn't have anything they thought would fit in that space. I am also interested in any information about changing to LEDs in the cabin and on deck. That one is on the list for next year.

Dan, you can't get more generic than a:
Double contact bayonet base light bulb, 2-pin 12-16vdc, available "everywhere from NAPA, Target, K-Mart and most gas stations. They are commonly used in autos. I use them on board Cin Cin, and have to say they are quite power hungry !

Ooops ! Forgot to add the normal part number: 1004, or GE 26726, more commonly known as simply 1004. Incidently they are used as overhead dome lights

Roy,
At $40 a pop, quick and easy was a bit too expensive for me! I'm paying less than half that for my bulbs.

Jack,
I used this bulb in the mast top light:

I was concerned if it met the "2 miles visible" regulation, but I had occasion to go down to the boat at night and try it out ... it's BRIGHT!

My main concern was the mast top, as it's on all night when anchored out, but I haven't converted the rest of the nav lights as I suspect the old lamp holders are not waterproof, and anything down on deck is subject to salt spray ... not a good environment for electronics!

So maybe it's time to replace the bow and stern nav light holders altogether. Not concerned with the light half way up the mast as it's only on when motoring at night, while generating lots of surplus power.

Peter - Thanks for the information. I converted the masthead light to LED last year. I haven't changed the cabin lights or the deck lights, yet. But your post has re-inspired me to do something this year. I'll let you know if I come up with a bulb for the deck lights. I'm with you...not changing the running light mid way up the mast...only on when the engine is running.

Just a short note: The latest issue of Good Old Boat has a very good article on LED conversion ... very inovative and inexpensive.
